Kentucky 2009 IECC/ASHRAE 90.1-2007 Commercial Building Energy Codes Bringing together architects, engineers and code officials to help understand new proposed Kentucky Commercial Building Energy Code to create more efficient buildings
Kentucky has adopted the 2009 IECC (and the alternative compliance path ASHRAE 90.1-2007) to improve the energy efficient of new commercial buildings.
AD Hall provides customized commercial energy code workshops, The 4 different workshops are designed for 1) code officials 2) architects, professional engineers 3) owners 4) contractors, manufacturers/manufacturer representatives
In the spring of 2011, the University of Kentucky and AD Hall and Associates partnered to offer nine workshops that helped support the Kentucky implementation of IECC 2009 Commercial Energy Code. Over 400 code officials, architects, engineers and related professionals attended. These energy code workshops are sponsored by: Commonwealth of Kentucky Department for Energy Development and Independence (DEDI) Kentucky Department of Housing, Building and Construction (KDHBC) US Department of Energy Additional support for the workshops was provided by the AIA Chapters of Kentucky and the ASHRAE Chapters of Kentucky.
Currently Kentucky and West Virginia are evaluating the need for additional workshops to support their energy conservation code related activities. _______________________________________________________________________________________ Workshop Speakers: Art Hallstrom, P.E., ASHRAE Fellow. President of AD Hall and Associates, Lexington, Ky. Art is an ICC Member and active in commercial building energy standards and certification. He has a broad range of experience in building load design and related energy use and is an ASHRAE certified energy modeler (BEMP). Formerly the Trane Airside Applications Engineering Manager, he has written many HVAC related application manuals and participated in the low energy ASHRAE HQ renovation. He is currently a member of the ASHRAE Society Technology Council and Chair of the wikiASHRAE project.
Kenneth C. Peet, P.E., C.E.M., LEED AP, Associate, AD Hall and Associates, Louisville, Ky. Ken is the former owner of LSE Engineering, Inc. and has designed many types of commercial and institutional buildings in Ky. His practical knowledge of technical issues, energy standards and energy rating programs like Energy Star and ASHRAE bEQ will help attendees understanding how to evaluate commercial building energy use - both before and after construction. He is an ASHRAE Member and Chair of ASHRAE TC 7.9
Don Colliver, Ph.D., P.E. is a Professor of Biosystems and Ag Engineering and Associate Director of the Power and Energy Institute of Kentucky at the University of Kentucky where he has been involved in building energy related teaching, research and outreach activities for over 30 years. He was the ASHRAE Society President in 2002-2003 and previously served as Chairman of ASHRAE’s Technology Council and also the ASHRAE Standards Committee. He initiated and is currently serving as the leader of the ASHRAE/AIA/IES/USGBC/USDOE sponsored Advanced Energy Design Guides, which provides guidance for additional energy savings beyond the energy code. Over 280,000 copies of the 30% energy saving books have been distributed and the 50% Beyond Code books are currently being developed. Don also led UK’s entry in the 2009 US DOE Solar Decathlon where students designed, built and demonstrated a net-zero-energy house on the National Mall. |
